A list of the top search terms on Google known as Google Zeitgeist 2011 reveals the most-searched celebrities, news stories, brands and products in the United Kingdom.

The startling revelation is that South Asia, especially India-centric celbrities have topped the search list, a pointer that India will dominate the search engines in 2012.

“In June 2011, Google entered the social networking space with the launch of Google. In the three weeks following its announcement, Google+ amassed a user base of more than ten million people,” writes the Zeitgeist in-charge at Google. “Google+ became a hit in South Asia, with even people like the Dalai Lama and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan creating accounts.”

In the UK, the Royal Wedding came out top, while brands like Apple’s proposed iphone 5, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 were on top of the chart.

Fifa 12, the computer game from Electronic Arts, followed by Minecraft and Battlefield 3 were visibly driving the traffic.

Steve Jobs was a popular search term, while Groupon was also there in the UK list.
